It's only mid-January and I'm already rethinking my New Years resolutions... That sounds like a very indecisive way to start 2009. But, I'm a terrible procrastinator and making a firm decision about anything is always a challenge for me, so really this rethink is not very surprising at all.

I have two techniques I subconsciously use to control my weight, only they're not subconscious now because I'm aware of them. And then, interestingly, I found a Mayo Clinic research paper on tips for losing and keeping weight off successfully, and their research showed that both these techniques were used by people who managed to successfully keep weight off. So rather than keep this piece of information to myself, here it is...

It's often said yo-yo dieting will stuff our metabolism up entirely and we'll end up weighing more in the long run than if we hadn't bothered at all. So is it true? Can we do more harm than good by trying and failing? And are my sporadic efforts actually worse for me than just not bothering at all?

I've asked myself for years what the logic is behind 'eating slowly'. Eating slowly when I'm hungry makes about as much sense as not eating at all. Nobody would ask you to not eat when you're ravenous, so why would they expect you to eat slowly?? Well it seems that US researchers have proven unequivocally that slow-eating is the path to redemption.

An "all or nothing attitude isn't helpful when it comes to healthy eating". Just because you make one mistake doesn't mean the whole day's efforts and your best healthy eating habits are shot to pieces now and should be binned. Instead try some of these fix-its...

I've decided my eating habits and exercise routine need a serious overhaul. We live near the beach so I'm blessed to be to walk there several times a week. But, where once those walks were rather energetic experiences that meant I arrived home puffed and tired (I'm thinking that means I've been good and got my heart rate up) nowadays my walks are more a leisurely stroll that generally involve stopping for a chai latte at the local cafe...
