Irritable bowel syndrome isn't the best health condition to have. Let's face it, your friends don't really want to discuss your irritable bowels over dinner or a latte. If you're an IBS sufferer, like myself, then I'm sure you too are always on the look out for any new research on the topic - like this just out of Australia: Researchers from Monash University have conducted a pilot trial to investigate whether Yakult probiotic drinks can reduce irritable bowel symptoms and distal small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (DSIBO). My doctor decided I had "irritable bowel syndrome" a couple of years ago. I don't think that diagnosis was particularly precise; IBS was just a good-enough fit for my symptoms and gave us something to call my abdominal problems. IBS seems to be a catch-all diagnosis for anyone with abdominal pain and bowel problems of unknown origin.
