Rolled Oats - Is Porridge Healthy?When I was six years old I didn't care whether rolled oats were healthy or not. I just loved them. I loved that story about the magic porridge pot that kept making more and more porridge until the whole town was overflowing with porridge. Only in my dreams the porridge was covered in brown sugar. Of course I'm all grown up now and I realise there are no magic porridge pots. I also realise I can't put 1/2 cup of brown sugar on my bowl of porridge every morning if I want to be happy AND healthy. So brown sugar and maple syrup aside, are rolled oats healthy?

Which Breakfast Cereals To AvoidAn investigation of breakfast cereals marketed to US children revealed that some are more than half sugar by weight. That means, for every 100g serving a whopping 50g or more is pure sugar! Which got me thinking about my breakfast cereal choices. Am I eating a healthy breakfast cereal? Or am I sugaring myself up too much in the morning?
